(This guest post appeared earlier in Congressman Paul’s blog) Almost everyone agrees that health care has major problems in the United States, the biggest problems related to exploding costs. No one doubts that the system needs reform. However, many in Washington see tighter government controls as a solution. In fact, the problems in the past, government controls, the roots created more problems than it solved. Ironically, laws and policies in the 1970s to promote Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) resulted from desperate attempts to control rising costs. However, instead of promoting an effective health, HMOs took too much away from patients and doctors to check and gave it to the insurers. This excessive dependence on third-party payers removed to save on incentives for insured patients the cost of health care, and let the problem snowball effect. In addition, the third-party payer system creates a two-tier health system where people want to offer, whose employers could afford “Cadillac”, have access to top quality health care, while other financial obstacles in obtaining high quality health care face. For these and other reasons, I put the Option Private Health Care Act last week. This law provides individuals back in control of the health care system by replacing the recently-adopted tax and expenditure and regulate medical law with reforms to restore a free market health care system. First, the law, all Americans would offer a tax credit for 100F health care expenditures. This tax credit is fully refundable against both income and payroll tax. It would also individuals over unused amounts in the cafeteria plans and Flexible Savings Accounts (FSA). Next, there is a tax credit for premiums for high deductible insurance offer would roll with a Health Savings Account (HSAs) and allow seniors to use funds in HSAs to pay for Medigap policies connected. It also would repeal the 7.5hr thresheshold deductible. This for the deduction of medical expenses, and so would all medical expenses tax law would also create a competitive market in health insurance through the exercise of Congress Constitutional authority under the Commerce Clause to enable individuals to health insurance beyond the state borders to purchase. Ending the state imposed bans would receive a competitive national market in health insurance. The Private Option Health Care Act would also ensure that people injured during medical treatment, fair compensation, while reducing the burden of costly malpractice litigation on the health care. The bill solves this problem by providing a tax credit to complete for negative results before medical treatment purchased. This type of insurance compensation for any negative results without lengthy litigation, or by giving huge sums lawyers. Finally go to court, would the Private Option Health Care Act, prices for prescription drugs, by reducing barriers to imports of Food and lower Drug Administration (FDA)-approved medicines. Under my bill, who import a drug, you simply submit an application to the FDA, which must then be approved if it is either not approved for use in the United States or marked distorted or false. The Option Private Health Care Act allows Congress made the mistake last month by the exchange of the new law on health with health measures, to give control to correct individuals, but of the federal government and corporations. Our health is too important to the typical results of government interference and “corrections” possible. I was recently been reported when that Lane Bryant, the plus-sized clothing company, met with resistance from several news media in trying a new advertising campaign for a lingerie collection debut flabbergasted. Obviously, some stations were the ads during certain time window because of the size of the model, does not claim the sporty character of the ad through the air as a sale. Lane Bryant cites examples from Victoria’s Secret ads equally rapid airing during the same time slots as proof of bias. Research seems to Bryant on the side of Lane. Studies have consistently shown that the current level of attractiveness on television and in magazines is shown thinner for women than for men, and that the current standard for women portrayed in magazines and in films thinner than it is in the past. It is clear that the media as a constant reinforcement of the stigma that obese people, epidemics in this country is primarily women. The worst part is that this is in fact serve to distract from the more important and fundamental issue: health. This week, the STOP Obesity Alliance is housed at George Washington University’s Department of Health Policy is a step taken to steer the discussion of health with the development of a task force for women to complete. The Task Force, consisting of a cross section of influential public and private organizations are working to make raising obesity and chronic diseases in women in matters of national political agenda. Our first encounter, which was attended almost exclusively by women, fast in a discussion about the need to develop the news about weight change, in order to concentrate on health than on body image and healthy habits rather than numbers on a scale. This has never been more important. More and more research points to the ways in which a woman’s weight affects the health of their family members - especially their children. Maternal obesity increases the risk of obesity in children. The research also shows that mothers strongly influence their children’s eating habits, physical activity, the future risk of obesity and health. (1.2) mothers commonly serve as a gatekeeper for the food that the household is. (3) How the U.S. Department of Labor states: “The working woman is likely the primary decision makers for the family and caregivers when a family member becomes ill. Therefore, women need adequate knowledge and tools to address their multiple roles as decision makers and consumers of health care. (4) We are mothers, wives, daughters, teachers, managers and, increasingly, “Chief Health Officer” for our families. And according to the latest statistics, two in three of us is also something else: being overweight. Unfortunately, this means that millions of women have an increased risk for a variety of obesity-related chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. And to all this that obesity aggravates other issues for women, discrimination in the workplace to avoid distortions in the doctor’s office. We know that prejudice against obese weight is higher for women as compared to obese men in a variety of areas. Even in health care, women face widespread weight-based stigmatization, which often leads them to delay or avoid seeking needed preventative care. We are constantly bombarded only ultra thin models and “protected” images that are much closer to our own bodies. For this reason, it is for us to see how weight loss is hard on improving our health and not meeting an unrealistic ideal. In fact, according to the National Institutes of Health’s Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, a modest weight loss of 5-10 percent can significantly improve health. What an important message we could through the promotion of this first, achievable steps to improve our health and celebrates this loss as a significant achievement to send, instead of achieving an illusory image media as a measure of our success.
